Richards to take sole charge of Te Akau
Jamie Richards takes over as sole trainer for New Zealand's eight-time champion stable Te Akau Racing. Co-trainer Stephen Autridge has decided to downsize to a smaller team and to train from their property on Banks Road.
Te Akau principal David Ellis said the co-trainers had taken Te Akau Racing to a new level since joining forces in 2015.
"I hadn't won the Derby as a trainer, I achieved that with Gingernuts. I wanted to train 1000 winners and that happened recently on the day we laid my mother Gloria to rest and I wanted to win another trainers' premiership - mission accomplished," said Autridge
Richards, who is just 28, said he was delighted to be heading up such a stable as Te Akau.
“Jamie will be running the stable, and my goal is to continue building on the record we’ve achieved and I’ve bought some lovely young horses in the last five months, all sold (very few horses left to sell), some of the best quality horses to ever be available to a stable in New Zealand and we look forward to working with them in the coming years." said Ellis.
