Scapina Lands Listed Sprint
The feature race on Dortmund’s card last week was won in style by Scapina (Tai Chi) who was landing her first black-type victory. The four-year-old filly was dropped out towards the rear of the field in the 2000m contest travelling in mid-division on the rail.
Trainer Henk Grewe’s charge challenged in the straight as eventual runner-up Daring Match (Call Me Big) led the field. Scapina dug in well to assert inside the final furlong and won easily by two and a half lengths, with Daring Match holding on to second by a head from the fast-finishing Shining Emerald (Clodovil).
Bred by Gestut Romerhof, Scapina was purchased by Rennstall Gestut Hachtsee for €20,000 at BBAG’s September Yearling Sale, but failed to find a buyer when offered at Arqana’s February Sale earlier this year.
She is a half-sister to several winners including Sammy Black (Black Sam Bellamy), twice a winner over hurdles and also successful over fences. They are out of Sunshine Story (Desert Story), a winner over 1400m at two and later a winner over hurdles in Italy and fences in Germany.
She is a half-sister to the Listed winners Sworn Pro (Protektor) and Sworn Sold (Soldier Hollow), as well as the Listed-placed Sworn Mum (Samum). Sunshine Story has a yearling filly by Thewayyouare and delivered a colt foal by Guiliani last month.
