Daisy guineas Gr.2
Following the unexpected shock defeat of Snowdance (Captain Al) in the Fillies Guineas and the late withdrawal of Met winner Oh Susanna (Street Cry) from the Guineas proper, there was some consolation for the Snaith stable when Do It Again came from last to win the mile Classic in scintillating style.
The long-striding bay trailed the field as Wonderwall (Querari) led into the straight but, when set alight, he sliced through the field – and the dust – and made up at least three lengths in four strides to surge into the lead 150m out. On his inside, favourite Tap O’Noth (Captain Al) was now under pressure and it was Sniper Shot (Judpot) who
challenged strongly wider out from a bad draw. He briefly threatened, but the Cape visitor was in a galloping mood and cleared away to score by a facile length and a half, while Tap O’Noth was back in third.
Do It Again gives sire Twice Over another Stakes winner. Snaith was clearly relieved and remarked: “It’s been a hard night. Lots of pressure and I didn’t expect him to win. He had everything against him – first time lights, the track running fast and lots of kick-up.
He really put in a big effort today and looks a serious July contender.” A winner of his first two starts, Do It Again confirmed that promise when third, beaten just under a length in the Gr.3 Selangor Cup. Unplaced behind Tap O’Noth in the Cape Guineas, he roared home from the back of the field to run second to Eyes
Wide Open in the Gr.1 Investec Cape Derby.
Purchased for R1.1m at the National Yearling Sale, Do it Again races in the yellow silks of Bernard Kantor, who campaigns the gelding in partnership with Nic Jonsson and Jack Mitchell.
Strongman won Hong Kong’s Gr.3 Ladies Purse under the name Horse Of Fortune, while Mighty Emperor has scored five times in Singapore.
Grandam Millie Bovana (Royal Prerogative) is a full-sister to Mill Hill, winner of the Lancome Fillies and Germiston November Handicap. She produced dual Gr.3 winner Bushra (Badger Land), who in turn is the dam of Gr.3 East Cape Derby hero True Master (Jet Master) and dual Stakes winner Beataboutthebush (Gimmethegreenlight).
