Tapwrit Returns To The Belmont Stakes' Racecourse Once Again
The Big Sandy, which was witness to Tapwrit's career-defining moment will be appropriate enough as the venue where he launches his long-awaited 4-year-old campaign.
The Todd Pletcher trainee is slated to return to racing after a 10-month gap, when he heads a field of six entered in a 1 1/16- mile optional-claiming allowance race at Belmont.
As the first Belmont Stakes' win anniversary for the $1.2 million sale purchase looms, nostalgia is washing over his connections hard and fast. After finishing fourth in the Gr.1 Travers Stakes (2017), his lone start after the Belmont Stakes, the Tapwit colt went to the sidelines with a foot issue that took its time resolving itself.
"It's probably going to be a little bit sharp, a one-turn (going) 1 1/16 miles, and you're going to have some sharp colts in there with a recency edge over him," Wellman said of Tapwrit.
