Rainbow Bridge Wins Second Leg Of Winter Series
Progressive three-year-old Rainbow Bridge is one step away from completing the Winter Series following his workman-like victory in the second leg run over 1800m.
Rainbow Bridge fought jockey Richard Fourie all the way and after hitting the front early in the straight, he came under pressure close home.
Showing plenty of heart and courage, the bay nevertheless dug deep and held off a late challenge from Selangor Cup winner and Winter Guineas second Rocket Countdown to score by a length, while Doublemint (Twice Over) was a half length further back in third.
The Winter Derby beckons, yet owner Chris Gerber and trainer Eric Sands may be tempted to supplement Rainbow Bridge to the Vodacom Durban July.
The still in-experienced youngster has yet to taste defeat after three starts and with earnings of R362,500 and has easily recouped his purchase price of R300,000 as a National Sale Yearling.
