Royal Ascot Owner Profile: Ronald Joseph Arculli
The 70 year old cultural ambassador to Hong Kong is on the board of the Asia Art Archive and the former chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He is currently a senior partner with King & Wood Mallesons which is known as one the world’s foremost law firms.
In the past Arcullihas also been a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong and the deputy chairman of the Liberal Party.
He has also been inducted as Honorary Fellow of Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI) on 24 Oct, 2013. In 2013, he was also appointed as the chairman of Richard Li Tzar-kai new venture, FWD.
He loves skiing and horse racing.
His Eton-educated trainer Ed Dunlop is based at La Grange, one of the most historic racing stables in Newmarket. Dunlop trains several horses for Arculliincluding Red Verdon, Dark Red, Fabulous Red and Reddiac.
Australia at the If everything goes to plan this season and Red Verdon’s rating moves back above 110 then they hope to take him to Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup (2018).In the meanwhile Dunlop is considering The Curragh Cup and the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Dunlop was at one point head trainer in charge of Sheikh Maktoum Al Maktoum’s Gainsborough Stable. He has savoured considerable success at La Grangewith Ronald Arculli ownedRed Cadeaux, the 55,000gns purchase who won the Hong Kong Vase (2012) and was runner-up in both the Melbourne Cup(2014, 2013 and 2011) and Dubai World Cup (2014).
The English stayer, won the hearts of Australian fans after finishing second on three occasions in the race that stops the nation, had to be euthanized due to a break in his left foreleg during the Melbourne Cup (2015).
