Mendelssohn Hopes To Win A Place In The Breeders' Cup
Aidan O'Brien trained-Mendelssohn returns unraced to the the US, to contest the US$300,000 Gr.3 Dwyer Stakes. The Ballydoyle master hopes that the Scat Daddy colt will be able to compete against Triple Crown winner Justify in the 2018 Gr.1 Breeders' Cup race. He had a troubled trip in the Gr.1 Kentucky Derby and came last thereafter. The colt is owned by Michael Tabor, Susan Magnier, and Derrick Smith.
The Irish stable has also entered Group Two winning son of Scat Daddy, Seahenge, owned by Coolmore connections. He ran fifth in the UAE, which was won by Mendelssohn. Javier Castellano will be riding.
The one-mile Dwyer, has drawn a field of seven which includes Gr.2 Louisiana Derby winner Noble Indy under John Velazquez.
