Abashiri Suffers Career Ending Injury During Durban July 2018
South African Triple Crown hero Abashiri, who was injured during the running of the 2018 Gr.1 Durban July, is to be retired.
The goodlooking Lammerskraak bred gelding is owned by Mike and Adam Azzie who have done a sterling job with the son of Go Deputy.
The National Yearling Sale graduate is recovering at the Summerveld Equine Hospital after going wrong in the final stages of the Durban July race. He will be returned to Gauteng this week and then commence his injury rehabilitation before being retired and taking his place as the Azzie Racing Stable darling.
Abashiri was raced in his early career by the late Adriaan van Vuuren and earning over R4,3 million in 20 starts. Post his triple crown triumph he suffered an injury which prevented him from racing at the same level as earlier. But he was always a newsmaker and favourite of the racing public.
