The Last Season Of Del Mar Racing's Seventh Decade Has Begun
Historic Del Mar has begun its 79th season with a ten-race program highlighted by the seaside track’s traditional opening-day feature, the US$100,000 Oceanside Stakes for three-year-olds at one mile over the infield Jimmy Durante grass course which was won by Restrainedvengence, an under by Evin Roman.
The 36-day meeting schedule features a 41-race stakes schedule worth $7.3 million. The season will conclude Labor Day Monday, September 3.
The field featured: Shane Zain, Mario Gutierrez, Restrainedvengeance, Evin Roman; Faversham, Tiago Pereira, Move Over, Tyler Baze, Calexman, Giovanni Franco, Heartfullofstars, Santiago Gonzalez, Soltero, Joe Talamo, Afleet Ascent, Kent Desormeaux, and Respect the Hustle, Tyler Conner. Also eligible are More Honor, Pereira, and Risky Proposition, Talamo.
Restrainedvengence took the lead in the final strides, overhauling outsider, Afleet Ascent, winning by three-quarters of a length. Calexman, who set the early pace, was third, while Texas Wedge, the favorite was seventh.
