When The Gr.3 Governor's Stakes Became A Battle Between Two Stablemates
The inveterate son of Candy Ride fought an epic battle to claim the Gr.3 Governor's Stakes last weekend.
Leofric prevailed by a neck over fellow Brad Cox-trainee Term of Art. Matrooh was a length back of Term of Art in third. Imperative, who got a perfect stalking trip in third, never quickened in the lane and finished fourth with Hawaakom fifth.
Owned by Steve Landers Racing, Leofric improved his record to six wins from 11 career starts with earnings of $457,940. He was bred in Kentucky by Peter Blum Thoroughbreds out of the Unbridled's Song mare Lady Godiva and was purchased by BSW Bloodstock/Liz Crow, agent for $100,000 out of the 2016 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
