Chautauqua did jump on the weekend but was more than seven lengths behind the field soon after and stewards decided he shouldn’t be allowed to race in NSW again
Stewards told owners on Sunday that nominations of Chautauqua for barrier trials would be refused after he failed to satisfy them for the seventh time at Rosehill last Saturday.
The owners argued that Chautauqua’s fame and pulling power was a good enough reason to allow him to continue his career.
Chautauqua has shown improvement since working with a behaviourist (a renowned the horse whisperer). Owner Peter Wright said Chautauqua’s re-education process hadn’t been finished yet.
The owners convinced stewards to give him more time and another chance, but he can’t trial until after September 22.
It all but rules him out of The Everest and he will have to trial successfully on two occasions before being allowed to race again.
