Redzel In Good Order Ahead Of The Shorts
Defending Everest Champion, Redzel, has come through his victory in the Concorde Stakes well and is in good order ahead of his next up assignment in The Shorts over 1100m at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Redzel, who now holds favouritism for the world’s richest race on turf after a convincing win first-up coupled with defeats for some of his Everest rivals, will have his final lead up run on Saturday as he follows the same path which led him to Everest glory 12 months ago.
The son of Champion Sire Snitzel set a track record in The Shorts last year, when running 1.01.83 for the 1100m defeating Ball Of Muscle by a length and a quarter.
Redzel continued preparations for Saturday with some beach work on Wednesdaymorning, where Peter Snowden said the six-year-old is in ‘good order’ heading into Saturday’s run.
“All is good with the horse,” said co-trainer Peter Snowden. “He’s come through his run in the Concorde well and has worked well this week.
“He’s tucked up that little bit more following the run and taken good natural improvement. He’s fitter and is very much on target for Saturday, with his main target of The Everest still four weeks away.
“He’s in good order and I couldn’t be happier with the horse.”
Redzel will take on eight rivals for Saturday’s Group 2 clash, with one third of the Everest line up featuring in the race, with Redzel joined by Invincible Star, English and Brave Smash.
Redzel has drawn barrier 3 with regular jockey Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.
