Chautauqua Bids Adieu
The grey flash will not be seen on a race track again. Its only with a heavy heart can a racing writer share the news which would have been difficult for the owners, trainers and even the jockey to accept.
Chautauqua’s racing career was declared to be over after he failed to jump in an official trial at Moonee Valley on Moir Stakes night.
The eight year old gelding needed to pass his second consecutive test but stood flat-footed in the gate to the disappointment of connections with jockey Tommy Berry bringing the horse down the straight for the last time to a standing ovation from fans.
The winner of six Group One races, Chautauqua has won more than A$8.8 million.
