Oldest Winning Thoroughbred Trainer Died At 98
Jerry Bozzo, thoroughbred trainer, retired aeronautical engineer, industrialist, and World War II veteran sold his Pennsylvania bottle manufacturing company in 1969 to start breeding and training Thoroughbreds in South Florida.
He will be remembered as the oldest winning Thoroughbred trainer in history. He won this accolade last year when he sent out Cotton Tooyah for a 4 1/4-length victory at Gulfstream Park.
Bozzo also held the record for the oldest trainer ever to saddle a (non-black-type) stakes winner when homebred Flutterby won the Sea Lily Handicap at Gulfstream May 30, 2015, before she went on to finish second in the Princess Rooney Stakes Gr.2 and win two more stakes.
