Stephen Got Even Dies at 23
Group One winning son of A.P. Indy Stephen Got Even died earlier this month.
He earlier stood at Lane's End from 2001 until he was pensioned in 2015. He died at the age of 23 and is remembered fondly at the farm for his kind disposition.
He was sold to Stephen and Tomisue Hilbert for $325,000 at the 1997 Keeneland July Yearling Sale and went on to win the 2000 Gr.1 Donn Handicap (Gr.1) and the 1999 former Gr.2 Jim Beam Stakes (It is now called the Galleryfurniture.com Stakes). He also placed in the 1999 Gr.1 Woodward Stakes.
After his retirement from active racing, Stephen Got Even sired 38 black-type stakes winners and 39 black-type-placed performers. His top runners included 2005 champion 2-year-old male Stevie Wonderboy, classic-placed Gr.1 winner First Dude , and the late Gr.1 winner I Want Revenge. His top runners also include six champions worldwide.
