Spirited mare Kenedna secured her first Gr.1 in the Coolmore Legacy and followed it up with a second Gr.1 when she crossed the wire first in the Doomben Cup race.
The 5YO finished in Stakes level placings a further nine times. The Gr.1 Doomben Cup was her 18th consecutive start at Stakes level.
The Not A Single Doubt mare who was an A$80,000 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale buy for Darren Weir, John Foote and MDR Bloodstock, from the Arrowfield Stud draft has now winnings of just under A$2m.
Trainer Ciaron Maher revealed that, previously, the ownership group had considered retiring Kenedna early to become a broodmare but was grateful they chose a different path with her.
“The horse came to me in great order from Darren Weir and a lot of his team have had a lot to do with her, who now work for my team.
“Darren encouraged the owners early on to race on, he thought the horse would continue to develop so to keep her in training and not send her to the breeding barn.’’
It has proven a monumental decision.
