Maximum Security Heading In To The Group One Travers
Gary and Mary West's Maximum Security was back at the top of game, winning the US$990,000 Gr.1 Haskell Invitational Stakes with a his 1 1/4-length victory with Mucho Gusto in second place at Monmouth Park.
The Gr.1 Travers Stakes is the next target confirmed trainer Jason Servis plans to send Maximum Security.
Being as cautious as ever, Servis said he would monitor Maximum Security's training over the next five weeks and probably decide during the week of the Travers whether his 3YO is ready for a third race in 69 days.
"I want to give him a few days and get some fluids into him," said Servis, who plans to race his other multiple Group One winner, World of Trouble, in the US$200,000 Gr.3 Troy Stakes.
Servis said the US$1 Gr.1 million Pennsylvania Derby is also an option, though he would want to work Maximum Security on the track before committing to run there.
"There's not many options left for him at this point in the year," Servis said.
Although patrons very much want to see the Maximum Security-Mucho Gusto rematch, the latter who is trained by Bob Baffert will be sitting out the Travers.
