Pyro Progney Top Hokkaido Selection Sale 2019
Japan’s July Selection Sale brought in a record JYP 3,103,272,000 (over US$29 million) from the sale of 197 yearlings.
The 2019 renewal of the Selection Sale at Hokkaido has kept up the momentum started by the JRA Select Sale earlier in July. The sale offers the best physicals and pedigrees that the Hidaka region has to offer.
A beautiful Pyro colt out of Ocean Fleet (JPN) was the sale topper. The colt was knocked down for JYP 38,880,000 (US$3.6 million) to Tomoya Ozasa by Murata Bokujo.
Another sale topper was the chestnut Filly by six-time Gr.1 winner and Horse of the Year Maurice (JPN) out of Moonlight
Bay (JPN), who was knocked down to Shigeru Morinaka for JYP 30,240,000 (US$2.85 million).
Fifty-five different sire lines were listed in the 2019 catalogue, including yearlings by Japan’s hottest young sire, Lord Kanaloa (JPN).
Buyers also had their choice of exciting first crop sires including one of the most influential groups the country has seen in one generation in quite a while. Gr.1 Japanese Derby winner and Champion Three-Year-Old Duramente (JPN), Champion 2YO Leontes (JPN), two time Gr.1 winner and Champion Older Horse Lovely Day (JPN), six-time Gr.1 winner and Horse of the Year Maurice (JPN), Gr.1 Belmont Stakes winner CreatorⅡ(USA), two time Gr.1 winner A Shin Hikari (JPN), Champion 2YO Asia Express (USA), 10 time Gr.1 winner and Champion Dirt Horse Hokko Tarumae (JPN), Gr.1 winner and sire of multiple Gr.1 winners Discreet Cat (USA), G1 winner and sire of multiple Gr.1 winners Makfi (GB).
Maurice (JPN) topped the list of sires with 13 sales for JYP 256,500,000.
