Sheikh Mohammed Makes US$4.1 Purchase At Keeneland September Yearling Sale
This year's renewal of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale was as exciting as horse sales come. It all started with a simple bidding competition, which eventually turned into an all out bidding-war, which was (as expected) won by HH Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum when he purchased a striking son of Curlin out of Bounding, a champion sprinter in New Zealand for US$ 4.1 million.
He also purchased Hip 75, a gray or roan son of Tapit was also knocked down to Anthony Stroud for US$ 2.5 million. Stroud was acting as agent on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin. The colt consigned by Hinkle Farms, was bred in Kentucky by his consignor out of the Forestry mare Seeking Gabrielle. There was little doubt the colt's famous half brother, Gr.1 Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist , was at least partly responsible for his purchase price.
"It's really what Sheikh Mohammed liked," Stroud said.
Moving forward, Stroud said any decisions regarding whether the colts will stay in the U.S. for training will be at the discretion of Sheikh Mohammed.
