Desormeaux Buys Outwork Colt At Keeneland For US$220K
USA, Breeding News, 19.09.19: The famed Godsen himself has stated that, 'its difficult to stick to a budget at Keenland'. Keith Desormeaux had no hope sticking to his. It was love at first sight when he saw Hip 2727, the long-striding Outwork colt at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Desormeaux went to US$220,000 to take home the colt—the second foal out of the Lookin At Lucky mare Westside Tapstress consigned by Warrendale Sales for breeders Todd Frederick, Chad Frederick, and Carl Thomas Potter.
Gr.1 winner Outwork, whose first foals are yearlings of 2019, stands at WinStar Farm. The advertised fee for the son of Uncle Mo was US$15,000 in 2019.
The trainer also signed the ticket for Marquis on Hip 2675, a US$47,000 Exaggerator colt out of the Stevie Wonderboy mare Starship Flare. The colt was consigned by Four Star Sales, agent for breeder HomePride Farm.
Desormeaux, who conditioned Exaggerator to victory in the 2016 Gr.1 Santa Anita Derby, Gr.1 Preakness Stakes, and Gr.1 Haskell Invitational Stakes, said the lure of diamonds in the rough remains in Books 5 and 6.
The second-highest price of the day went to Hip 2792, a US$205,000 Dialed In colt consigned by Paramount Sales, agent. The colt was bred in Kentucky by Lesley Campion out of the Stormin Fever mare Casino Fever. His second dam, Casino Gold, produced Los Alamitos Derby winner Gimme Da Lute.
The colt was purchased by bloodstock agent Federico Barberini on behalf of an undisclosed client in Dubai.
