Gr.2 Jockey Club Sprint: Tyreel Stud-bred Aethero lived up to his billing as Hong Kong’s next big thing with a scintillating front-running victory under Karis Teetan.

“It was unbelievable. The day I trialled him, he gave me the feel of a real champion. I rode Able Friend and this horse reminds me so much of him," said Teetan.

Trainer John Moore had predicted a track record and he wasn’t far wrong: his rising star stopped the clock at 1m 07.58s, just eight-hundredths of a second outside the great Sacred Kingdom’s mark set on this day 12 years ago.

The son of Sebring shot right to the front and won by two lengths. Hot King Prawn was second, with Beat the Clock third. Mr Stunning, the winner of the last two runnings of the Gr.1 Hong Kong Sprint Gr.1, finished eighth in his first start of the season.

Trainer John Moore predicted the course record might be at risk, and Aethero almost proved him right, just missing with a final time of 1:07.58, eight-hundredths of a second shy of the mark.
