Quip And Liam’s Legend Headed For Red Stables
This year Doug Watson has two new eyecatching DWCC candidates - Gr.2 Tampa Bay Derby winner, Quip (by Distorted Humor) and 1800m Keeneland 2YO winner Liam’s Legend. Both horses have cleared quarantine and will soon head over to Watson’s Red Stables to begin serious training.
A private purchase by HH Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Gr.1-placed Quip landed the 2019 Oaklawn Handicap and was subsequently a good second in the Stephen Foster Stakes. Liam’s Legend has made just two starts, but the 2yo son of Liam’s Map impressed new owner Khalid bin Mishref enough for him to shell out US$325,000 for the grey colt at Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
Both were previously trained by one of America’s ascending conditioners, Rodolphe Brisset. Quip is possible to make the $450,000 Al Maktoum Challenge R2 US$200,000 Firebreak Stakes. Liam’s Legend is likely to race in the US$250,000 UAE 2000 Guineas.
