Monomoy Girl In With A Last Chance
Champion Monomoy Girl may be retired if she continues to be troubled with injuries and illnesses. The 5YO daughter of Tapizar hasn’t raced since winning the Gr.1 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (2018) because of a pair of setbacks last season — first, a bout of colic in the spring before a muscle strain sidelined her again in the fall.
Trainer Brad Cox said in an interview, "…She’ll never return to the races unless she’s 100% sound and ready to go."
“At the end of the day, I honestly feel like this time around there’s no pressure. If she makes it back, great. If she doesn’t, it’s all good. She’ll be sent off and retired.”
Cox added that “we’ll just give it one more shot and see where it goes.”
Monomoy Girl is owned by Michael Dubb, Monomoy Stables, The Elkstone Group and Bethlehem Stables.
